Bringing her technical and world dance training to the Planet Motion mix is SJ Romano, a teacher with a decade of teaching experience and a passion for the groove. SJ hails from New York where she grew up dancing in traditional ballet, jazz and tap classes and performing in musicals. SJ returned to classical ballet training in college and then moved into the world of Nia and Zumba beginning in 2001. After completing trainings in those movement forms and others, SJ broke out on her own funky path to incorporate her Hip-Hop roots and embrace her passion for African, Afro-Cuban, Latin and Eastern forms of dance as well. SJ returns to us in Boulder, Colorado after a four-year stint of intensive training and performing with Eveoke Dance Theater in San Diego, CA, where she also studied under Lamine Thiam and Suzanne Forbes-Vierling, two of the premier West African masters currently instructing in the States. She is currently a part of the Planet Motion Dance Troupe and will be showcasing some of her choreography in the upcoming show at the Boulder Theater on February 22nd, 2012. She also loves to dance on the rock and is an avid rock climber, runner, backcountry hiker and all-around lover of movement. SJ practices massage, is a teacher, and has a private psychotherapy practice when she is not in the studio. Come check her out and be ready to MOVE!
